Shade structures for northern Australia. A typological study

Frank’s study focuses on the creation and amplification of public spaces.  His research examines existing shade solutions as part of urban planning and architectural strategies to mitigate heat in hotter and tropical climates. Frank produced 2 documents:

Guidebook for Shade Structures in Northern Australia provides a structured theoretical understanding of the concepts influencing shade, and aspects to be considered when designing for shade.

The Atlas of Shade is a collection of examples and analyses that illustrate the concepts and technologies laid out in the Guidebook.

These documents are a valuable resource for designers, engineers, students, anyone who who is interested in the various approaches to dealing with shade and designing appropriate structures.
